Founded in 1985, the association has set itself ambitious goals: to preserve, promote and enhance the heritage and environment of Pontigny, as well as to organise cultural events and exhibitions.

The association, with the help of volunteers, has kept the abbey church open every day of the year for the last 30 years. Groups who request it can discover the abbey with a guide from the association, who will introduce them to the architecture and history of the site. For Heritage Days, the guides welcome a thousand visitors free of charge every year!
Since 1988, les Amis de Pontigny have organised numerous concerts. Music and architecture complement each other perfectly. The varied programmes range from Gregorian chant to contemporary vocal music. They now also include instrumental music, under the impetus of Régis Pasquier, an internationally renowned violinist who has brought together some of the biggest names in music to perform at Pontigny.
As part of the site's cultural outreach, numerous exhibitions and conferences have been organised. Preceding concerts and other events, they are an obvious cultural complement.
2024 is truly shaping up to be a year of change, with Les Amis de Pontigny confirming their contribution to the new future being built in partnership with the François Schneider Foundation.
Our association, as it has defined itself for almost 40 years, intends to pursue the goal it set itself when it was founded: "to contribute to the preservation, knowledge and promotion of the heritage and environment of the commune, as well as its cultural life and presentation. "
Thus, since its creation in 1985, we have worked in collaboration with various partners: the municipality that owns the abbey church, the assignee, the successive owners of the abbey estate, Mission de France, ADAPT, the Regional Council, and other associations.
We will continue to pursue the same goal in a strong and open dialogue with the Foundation, the new owner of the estate.
To quote Bernard of Clairvaux, from one of his sermons,
‘Non progredi, regredi est’
Not to move forward is to move backwards.
Together we will move forward! We have received a legacy and only together can we ensure its transmission and vitality!
